Is it OK?

There has been a breakthrough in the genetics field of science. Because of this breakthrough in genetic knowledge there have been issues that have been brought up and discussed concerning whether or not it should be moral or ethical to use growth hormones on humans in cases to make them “perfect.” So the question that this breakthrough poses is whether or not genetic enhancement is unacceptable or acceptable in the use of technology.

Yes

One of the issues states that using Genetic Enhancement is an acceptable behavior. The main idea on this point is that using these Genetic Enhancements will help cure a "host of debilitating diseases." One of the debilitating diseases that is talked about would be enhancing our physical muscles. Another one would be to enhance our emotions, moods and memories. The third issue that would be addressed and made better would be being able to choose the sex, height, and genetic traits in our children making them "better than well."

One of the opinions that are expressed in this issue is that everyone would welcome a gene therapy to alleviate muscular dystrophy. I believe that some people would be skeptical on using gene enhancement. My first thought is the age group that could benefit most from would be the elderly. And I think that the elderly would have a hard time using these modifications. Another opinion that I found is that the article states that "parents have a duty to promote their children's excellence." Although this can be argued by many as an opinion or fact, there are some parents that believe it's up to their children whether or not they want to be excellent.

No

I believe that the American people are programmed and are “obsessed with self-improvement.” There is always something new to get people to believe they can be “richer, thinner, smarter, happier, healthier, more successful, attractive, or all of the above.” I believe this way of thinking doesn’t lead to lasting happiness in life. Therefore I believe that we shouldn’t alter ourselves in order to make ourselves feel happy. I think that when this happens we run the risk of not understanding the main issue we are facing. Perhaps this is an emotional issue rather a physical issue.

I also believe that we should all be different. I think it would be interesting if all of the basketball players were all very tall to give an example. I think that we are all made to be different, and if we were all the same, this world would be very boring.
